CSD Elementary Art Curriculum
Course Overview
The elementary art program in the Cedarburg School District is designed to support the growth of young artists by giving them a diverse set of knowledge, skills, and experiences in the visual arts. Our mission is to build a solid foundation for our students, helping them to become lifelong learners who share a love and appreciation for the arts! Art classes provide the opportunity for students to explore and grow in a variety of media which will include: drawing, painting, printmaking, fibers, sculpture, and ceramics. There will also be a focus on the Elements and Principles of Art and Design, Art History & Cultures, and the Studio Habits of Mind.
Grading
The four grades that a student can receive are exceeding (EX), secure (SC), developing (DV), and needs strengthening (NS). For each project that a student completes a rubric is used to assess the student work. At the end of each semester the grades are averaged in each of the standards.

Crafts works of art using a variety of media and tools.
PRESENT
Shares and discusses artwork with others.
RESPOND
Describes, analyzes, interpets and judges artwork.
CONNECT
Understands, connects, and contributes to art communities.
STUDIO CITIZENSHIP
Acts as a responsible, respectful, and safe member of the art studio.
